At Otley Camera Club, we’re always keen to find opportunities to work with and support local community events and groups. Not only does it strengthen our community links, but it also gives our members the chance to enjoy new and varied photography experiences.
Through our connection with Otley Common, we were recently asked to help a local band who were preparing for an upcoming gig. They wanted a selection of photographs of their instruments to display on the walls of the Common, along with performance images they could use for promotion.
We happily agreed — only later discovering that the band were a punk rock outfit! Any uncertainty quickly disappeared, however, as it became clear just how talented and entertaining they were. The energy, character and enthusiasm they brought made the shoot great fun and a fantastic photographic challenge.
Capturing both the detail of the instruments and the atmosphere of a live performance gave our members a chance to explore different styles of photography, from close-up detail shots to fast-paced gig photography.
Projects like this perfectly reflect what Otley Camera Club is about: creativity, collaboration, learning — and having fun along the way. We’re delighted to have been able to support a local band and look forward to more opportunities like this in the future.
More photos of the project can be found in the community section of our website.
