Karen has been one of Otley Camera Club's success stories over the past year. Her confidence behind the camera has blossomed, her photography has reached a new level, and she's enjoyed her most successful competition season to date. With more placings than ever before, including 2nd Place in the Landscape Competition with her stunning image of Loch Muick, Karen has shown that hard work, enthusiasm and a willingness to try new things really do pay off.
Karen picked up a camera just three years ago, determined to capture the places she visited with more confidence and creativity. An evening class at Prince Henry's Grammar School started the journey, and by the end of the course she'd been persuaded to join Otley Camera Club—a decision that opened the door to a whole new world of learning.
Since then, Karen has thrown herself into experimenting with different genres, embracing whoever, or whatever, appears in front of her lens. Her growing portfolio now stretches from landscapes and cityscapes to candid street photography, seascapes and the beauty of nature.
Karen has become particularly interested in bird photography, which has become one of her favourite genres. It's not unusual to find her perched beside the River Wharfe, patiently waiting for the perfect moment to photograph one of her most charming subjects—the cheeky Black-headed Gull.
Karen also volunteers at her local hedgehog rescue, where her camera is never far from her hands. She has captured many photographs of tiny snuffling faces, prickly personalities and the quiet, heartwarming moments that happen behind the scenes.
Karen's enthusiasm for photography continues to grow with every new challenge. Whether she's exploring the outdoors, photographing wildlife or discovering new places, she's always looking to learn, improve and enjoy the next opportunity behind the lens.
