Same Image, Different Vision – Exploring Creativity Through RAW Editing

Last night Otley Camera Club hosted something new: our very first “Same Image, Different Vision” evening.

In the run-up to the session, members were given eight RAW image files and invited to edit them in any way they wished. The only rule? There were no rules! Each photographer could apply their own style, techniques, and creative approach.

We began the evening with a short discussion on the advantages of working in RAW — from the wider dynamic range to the flexibility it gives in editing. Then we looked at each image in turn, comparing the different results.

What made the evening so engaging was not only seeing the diversity of outcomes, but also hearing each member explain their choices. Some focused on bold colours, others leaned into subtle tones or dramatic crops. The similarities were just as interesting as the differences, revealing how personal creativity shapes an image.

The atmosphere was relaxed, fun, and full of learning. By the end of the night, it was clear that the experiment had been a success — a reminder of just how many visions can come from the same starting point.

We’re looking forward to running more sessions like this in the future.
