Lights, Camera, Long Exposure!
Last night at Otley Camera Club, members enjoyed a fun and creative evening exploring the possibilities of long exposure photography.
It was a particularly special session as, for the first time, we were able to hold this type of practical activity indoors. Our new, much larger clubroom has opened up lots of possibilities for the club, and this was a perfect opportunity to make use of the extra space.
The idea was simple but great fun. Members set their cameras up for 15-second exposures while others moved around the room waving bright, colourful lights. As the cameras captured the movement over those 15 seconds, the lights created trails, patterns and all sorts of unexpected effects.
There was plenty of experimenting as members tried different movements, colours and techniques, discovering how small changes could produce completely different results.
And it wasn't just about the photographs! The packed room was full of chatter, creative ideas, people sharing suggestions and, most importantly, lots of laughter. It was lovely to see members getting involved, trying something new and enjoying the opportunity to experiment together.
One of the great things about practical evenings is that there is no pressure to get everything right first time. It's about having a go, learning from each other and sometimes discovering something completely unexpected.
A fantastic evening and a brilliant example of how our new, larger clubroom is helping us make even more of our programme.
