In this edition of our Meet the Members series, we’re shining a spotlight on someone whose dedication, energy, and talent have been at the heart of the club for many years – Les Smart.
Les joined the club around ten years ago and wasted no time getting involved. Within just a few weeks, he was already serving on the committee – a sign of the commitment and enthusiasm that have become his trademark.
Today, Les holds the essential role of Competition Secretary. It’s a position that demands great organisation, attention to detail, and a lot of behind-the-scenes work. From coordinating entries to ensuring everything runs smoothly on competition nights, Les handles it all with professionalism and passion. His contribution to the club’s success in this area cannot be overstated, and we’re hugely grateful for the time and energy he puts into the role.
But Les’s involvement doesn’t stop there. He also plays a key role in our practical sessions, helping to ensure they’re engaging, educational, and enjoyable. Over the past year, he took the initiative to run Photoshop training sessions for members before our main evening meetings – a fantastic opportunity for members to build their editing skills and learn from one another in a relaxed, supportive setting.
And of course, Les is an accomplished photographer in his own right. His work is admired by many, and that was clearly reflected in our recent annual exhibition, where Les won the public vote – a well-deserved recognition of his creative eye and photographic talent.
Les exemplifies the spirit of our club: generous with his time, supportive of others, and passionate about photography. We’re lucky to have him on board.
Thank you, Les, for all that you do!
