A Social Photography Day at Sheffield Butterfly House

A group of Otley Camera Club members recently headed to the Sheffield Butterfly House for a relaxed social day — with plenty of photography along the way.

These informal outings are a really important part of the club. They give members the opportunity to spend time together, enjoy photography in a relaxed setting, and support each other in developing their skills.

From colourful butterflies to the ever-busy leaf cutter ants, there was no shortage of subjects to photograph — although some proved more challenging than others!

Our member Claire, who shared these images, reflected on the experience:“I wasn’t too impressed with my results and have learnt more about my equipment and aperture/depth of field — but all useful. Photographing the leaf cutter ants was a particular challenge.”

While Claire may have been modest about her results, we think there are some fantastic images here. More importantly, her comments perfectly capture what these days are all about — learning, experimenting, and growing in confidence.

These trips are not just about getting the perfect shot, but about enjoying photography, trying new techniques, and learning from each other along the way.
