What’s On This Week – Little People, Big Stories

This Thursday, our own member Richard Sells will be sharing his Miniature World project, which uses 1:87 scale model figures to create small scenes and stories in the real world.

The talk will look behind the scenes at how the photographs are made, from coming up with the initial idea through to choosing the location, arranging the tiny figures and working out the lighting and composition.

With the figures only around 2cm tall, it can involve a surprising amount of problem-solving – and sometimes things don't quite go according to plan!

Rather than simply looking at finished photographs, the evening will explore the thinking and process behind creating them.

Then it is your turn! The evening will also include the Miniature World Challenge. Members will receive a randomly selected set of miniature figures to take away and use as the starting point for creating their own photograph.

Then the challenge continues a few weeks later, when we'll bring the images together and see how everyone has interpreted their figures – with Richard, the members and AI all having their say!

It should be a fun way to explore storytelling, composition and creative photography, while seeing what happens when you make the subject of your photograph just a couple of centimetres tall!
