Urban Night Photography with Alistair How
We’re very fortunate to have some talented and highly respected photographers as members of Otley Camera Club, and this week we’re looking forward to hearing from our own member, Alistair How.
Alistair has had a lifelong interest in photography, starting with 110 and 126 cameras as a child before getting his first SLR as a teenager. After studying Geography at Southampton University, he began his career at Kodak just as analogue photography was starting to give way to digital.
In recent years, Alistair has returned to photography in a more serious way, gaining photographic qualifications, running workshops and providing tuition. He was President of Harrogate Photographic Society in 2023/24 and 2024/25, regularly judges and speaks at photography clubs across the country, and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Royal Photographic Society (RPS).
Alistair enjoys entering competitions and developing his photography. He’s also a keen phone photographer and a big fan of printing his work, believing there’s nothing quite like holding a physical print in your hands.
One of the real benefits of having Alistair as a member is that we get to enjoy some of his excellent talks at the club. This week, he’ll be sharing his work in Urban Night Photography, with stunning images and plenty of practical advice and tips to help us capture the city after dark.
It promises to be an inspiring evening, with lots to take away and try in our own photography.
