This week in our summer Meet The Members series we're featuring Danni Burgess.

Danni's photography journey began quite recently, inspired by joining her husband, Chris, on his countryside walks. What started as a growing interest in local wildlife quickly became a passion, and the turning point came when Chris gifted her a Canon camera for Christmas in 2023.

Since then, Danni has embraced every opportunity to get outdoors and explore. Whether visiting the countryside, the coast or destinations further afield, she is always searching for new habitats, species and photographic opportunities. Birds are her favourite subjects, and she particularly enjoys creating close-up portraits that reveal the intricate detail and beauty of their feathers.

Her love of wildlife extends beyond birds, with deer, hares and squirrels regularly appearing in her portfolio. More recently, her travels abroad have provided opportunities to photograph species such as bears, otters and elk.

Although wildlife remains her first love, Danni is always keen to develop her skills and explore new creative challenges. When photographic opportunities in nature are limited, she enjoys experimenting with street photography and occasionally turns her attention to macro and portrait photography, broadening both her experience and understanding of the craft.

Danni describes herself as a spontaneous photographer, driven by the artistic side of image-making. For her, photography is about storytelling, composition and creating visually engaging images rather than becoming overly focused on technical detail.

A member of Otley Camera Club for the past two years, Danni has recently taken on the role of Competition Secretary and also serves as the club's Inclusion Officer. She is passionate about supporting fellow members and helping ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate fully in photography and all that the club has to offer.
