A Varied Evening of Photography at Otley Camera Club
Thursday’s meeting offered members a little bit of everything, with an inspiring talk followed by three practical photography sessions.
We began the evening with a fantastic presentation from our own member Max Malisan, who shared stories and photographs from his trip to the Masai Mara last year.
It was a superb talk, combining some amazing photography with fascinating facts and memorable stories from his experiences. It was a wonderful opportunity to see Max’s images and hear the stories behind them.
After the talk, the room was quickly transformed for three practical sessions, giving members the chance to learn new skills, try different techniques and share ideas.
Creative printing with Mary
Mary worked with members to demonstrate a creative approach to printing photographs. It was a chance to explore different ways of presenting images and discover how the printing process can become part of the creative journey.
Macro photography with our Chair
A macro photography station gave members the opportunity to explore the small details of the natural world, with hints and tips for photographing fungi. Macro photography can reveal textures, shapes and details that are easy to miss with the naked eye.
Mounting photographs with Richard
Richard demonstrated how to cut an aperture in mount board, explaining the process and giving members the opportunity to try it themselves. Learning how to mount a print is a useful skill for anyone thinking about displaying their work in competitions or exhibitions.
It was a varied and enjoyable evening, moving from the wildlife of the Masai Mara to creative printing, macro photography and practical print presentation.
A big thank you to Max, Mary and Richard for sharing their knowledge and helping make the evening such a success.
At Otley Camera Club, our programme is about more than listening to talks. We also enjoy opportunities to experiment, develop skills, learn from one another and, of course, have a good time along the way.
