Cosplay & the Press
Chris, from the Club, and I visited two events in Bradford last week.
Bradford Valley Parade hosted the annual ‘Bradford Unleashed’ comic-con where we had an interesting time photographing the many cosplay, many of whom were dressed as superheroes, Star Wars, Batman characters etc. Oh and lots of zombies! The costumed characters welcomed being photographed as they were raising money for charity. They had taken great care to make their costumes as authentic as possible.
The second event at Cartwright Hall in Lister Park was the exhibition ‘Assignment 2019’ by the British Press Photographers Association - 100 of the best photos by professional press photographers. These photos where topical, thought provoking and well worth the visit. This was followed by a talk from Paul Ellis, one of the photographers who had a photo in the exhibition. He spoke of the exhibition, its origins and his career, how he got started and what life is like as a staff photographer working for Agence France-Press.
Two events I will certainly revisit next year and would recommend to the rest of the club.
