Wild dogs

This week Helen Reynolds, one our members, gave an interesting and informative talk on wild dogs on the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, South Africa. Superb pictures and a commentary worthy of a TV presenter.

Helen's special interest is in the science of dog behaviour but the talk covered a multitude of subjects. For starters the reserve had a high wire fence but no gate, just a gap. And then of course its a long way from civilisation so getting an Internet connection was a trip into the wilds or a visit to the nearby village. The rewards were seeing nature as nature intended and understanding the issues facing many species and how each are all interdependent.

This was primarily a research project and Helen is now in the process of writing a book both to illustrate her research experience and also to help raise funds for the charity Endangered Wildlife Trust to vaccinate African wild dogs of which there are currently only around 3,000 individuals.

Whilst we all look forward to reading her forthcoming book here are a few pictures to whet the appetite.
