York's Viking Festival

On Saturday, the camera club held an Out and About Event at York's Viking Festival. The annual festival is recognised as the largest event of its kind in Europe, and is a city-wide celebration of York’s rich Norse heritage. This year, the festival remembered legendary Vikings whose role in the sagas is often forgotten – the women who schemed, fought and led their people through turbulent times. Across the city there was an exciting programme of events, plus living history encampments, talks, tours and of course, dramatic combat performances. The images in the gallery below shows what a fantastic day was had and the striking and dramatic photos which were taken. Photos credit: Les Smart, Dia

Valentine's Night practical evening - Bokeh

With our next competition, Bokeh, coming soon we spent this Thursday evening having a go at learning / developing our skills at taking images which have bokeh in them. In photography, bokeh is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. As it was Valentine's Day, the session had a theme of love! It was a great evening with our experienced members helping our less experienced members in developing their skills. A selection of photos taken on the night can be seen below.

Three of a Kind

Our latest competition, judged by Sally Sallett, was 'Three of a Kind'. Our members had to enter three photos which were set around a theme. The photos were judged as a set. The winning entries can be seen here. A big congratulations to James Grimmitt who is in his first full year at the club and was awarded his first 1st place. He submitted three prints based on the theme of 'Amsterdam'. Thank you for Sally for your judging and for your excellent feedback and advice.

AGM

This week's meeting was the AGM. Congratulations to the new committee members and a huge thank you to the outgoing members who have put a lot of time and commitment into their role and have helped the club develop.

Out and About: Butterfly House

'Out and Abouts' are Otley Camera Club's day outs. They can be to locations where there are some great photography opportunities or to events. They are superb social events but also allow our more experienced members share their knowledge with newer members. Last week, the camera club headed to Sheffield to go to the Tropical Butterfly House https://www.butterflyhouse.co.uk/ . As you can see below, they were able to get some fantastic images. It was good timing as the deadline for our nature competition is fast approaching.
