Meeting Cancelled

Tomorrow’s meeting has been cancelled due to the weather. Nick will be coming in now on the 26th April for the macro judging. We don’t want any more broken bones! (Reference to our chairperson who managed to break his leg this morning)

Out and About Review

Tonight’s club night was a review of our ‘Out and About’ season. Out and About is a monthly trip we have to somewhere where we can take photos. It’s about photography but also a great social event.  In addition to the monthly trips, there are ‘ad hoc’ trips throughout the year and this year saw a weekend away to the Lakes too.  Locations in the past have included: Beamsly Beacon, Roseberry Topping, Whitby Goth Weekend, York Viking Weekend, the Seated Man, Haworth 40’s Weekend, Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Yorkshire Sculpture Park. To start the evening, we watched an excellent film, made by Julie, which showed a selection of photos taken on the trips.  At the end of the night, we had a brainstorm

Out & About: The Seated Man

Today was an ‘Out and About’ trip to photograph the Seated Man which  stands on Castleton Rigg in Westerdale. The three metre high, painted bronze statue of a Seated Man was created by artist Sean Henry.  It was errected in June 2017 and is due to remain in place for five years. After the half a mile hike to the statue, our members had an enjoyable time photographing the statue and the Westerdale landscape. Thank you to Diane and Julie for allowing me to use their images in the blog.

Portrait Competition

Yesterday, saw our portrait enteries judged by portrait photographer Jonathan Wootton. Jonathan gave his judgement on each photo and offered advice for improvements. At the end of the judging, he shared some of his own amazing portraits with us. He said he had enjoyed his first experience of judging, there were some well deserved winners and a lot of good work to choose from. The winning photos will be uploaded onto the website shortly.  You can take a look at Jonathan’s website here.

Goldsborough Hall & Harlow Carr Gardens

Some of our intrepid members braved the freezing conditions today in the hunt for snowdrops.  They visited Goldsborough Hall in Knaresbrough and the RHS gardens of Harlow Carr in Harrogate.

Annual Cookridge Photography Competition

Last night, Cookridge Camera Club were invited to our club to take part in the annual photography contest. Judge, John Curry, was shown 20 projected images and 20 prints.  Seeing them for the first time and not knowing which club they were from, he was asked to score each image out of 20. The scoring was close throughout the competition and a huge congratulations to Cookridge who won 356 points to 347. If you look at the average scores of 17.8 to 17.3, it shows how close it was and the how high the standard was.  Both clubs had an image which scored a full 20 out of 20. A big thank you to John for his excellent judging and feedback and thank you to Cookridge for sharing your superb images.

Annual General Meeting

This week we held our Annual General Meeting. A big thank you to members who have agreed to continue their roles and to the newly appointed committee members. Please see a message from the chairman at the bottom of this post. Next week at the club, it is the annual photography battle with Cookridge Camera Club. Each club will submit 10 digital images and 10 printed images. These will be judged and points awarded. At the end of the judging, the club with the most points will be triumphant. It is always a hugely enjoyable evening and we will let you know how we get on. Chairman's Message I would like to thank the Club Members and the Members of the Committee for making 2017 a great year
